Jim Rohn emphasized that one of the first things everyone should work on is their physical health. He said, “how terrible would it be if the mind said, ‘let’s go conquer the world’ and the body said, ‘I can’t even get out of bed’?” It takes your healthy body to carry around your head full of ideas and your heart’s desires. There is nothing more pitiful than a ready and willing mind but an incapable body.
How else do expect to be productive throughout the work day?
Want to know what the world’s most successful people think about daily exercise.
President Obama
President Obama fits in 45 minutes of exercise six days a week.
The President gets his workouts in before his day starts, though he admits that there’s “always a trade off” between getting sleep and getting exercise.
But he’s firm about lifting or cardio being a part of his routine, plus his regular basketball games.
“You have to exercise,” he tells Vanity Fair. “Or at some point you’ll just break down.
Richard Branson
Richard’s number one “secret” to greater productivity is to keep fit and exercise. Exercise increases energy levels, helps you to sleep better and improves your focus and concentration. Richard actually often gets up early at 6am to run, which is pretty amazing for someone 60 years old!
When asked in a 2013 interview what makes him “come most alive,” Branson remarked:
“Being fit and healthy, there is nothing like the endorphins from being fit, and the incredible endorphin rush that goes with that.”
Branson spends his mornings kitesurfing, swimming, or playing tennis.
Condoleeza Rice
No matter where she is in the world, former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice gets up at 4:30 a.m. to work out.
“Part of the secret of travelling well is continuing your routine,” Rice said in an interview with MSNBC. “So when I’m on the road I absolutely schedule time to get up in the morning and exercise first.”
Rice prefers 40 minutes of cardio exercise, often on a treadmill or elliptical trainer.
Aaron Patzer, founder of Mint.com
“You cannot work 14-hour days without getting a good workout in as a break,” Patzer said. “The typical workday, particularly in start-up mode, is from 9 to 6 or 9 to 7, then you take a two-hour break to work out and eat dinner. By that time you’re relaxed, and then you work until midnight or 1 a.m. If there was no break with physical activity, you’d be more tired and less alert.”
His workouts include lifting, running, rock-climbing, and even tree-climbing.
“Whenever I see a tree that is climbable, it must be climbed,” he said. “Sometimes when I’m on a run, I’ll just run up a tree, jump on a branch, and swing off. My favourite tree, in Saratoga, gets me a good 75 feet up.”
Other example of successful people following daily exercise are: Citigroup CEO Michael Corbat follows an exercise regimen called the Spartacus Workout, U.S. Senator Cory Booker likes to cycle, and TV star Oprah Winfrey does a mixture of cardio, strength training, and meditation to help her “power through her busy days.”
According to world renown success coach, Anthony Robbins, your “motion creates emotion”. This is built on the psychological understanding that how you move affects the way you think, feel, and behave. Your emotions affect the way you feel physically, but the opposite can also true.
And there is plenty of research to back up these claims. It has been proven time and time again that exercise improves your mood while boosting your feel-good endorphins. But now it is also established that exercise can make you more productive. By incorporating exercise into your daily routine you will see the following benefits: improved memory, increased concentration, stress levels will reduce, creativity is known to be enhanced and accelerated learning. All of this will definitely lead to an increase in productivity and results in the workplace! By incorporating exercise into the workplace you can improve the health, productivity and well-being of your employees.
By starting your mornings off with healthy physical activity, you are setting yourself up with improved mental capacity and lower stress, both of which are very important for a productive day.
Why wouldn’t you want to follow in the footsteps of these highly successful achievers…in whatever field you work. Think your too busy…then think again!!
